Baptism Formation for families of infants and unbaptized children up to 7 years old:
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission. (from CCC1213)
Queenship of Mary Parish and the Baptism Formation Ministry welcomes parents and their children through the Sacrament of Baptism and prepares parents for this sacrament. Our Baptism Formation Program is a combination of some “home study” and then a gathering at our church. Our monthly gatherings occur on a Sunday, after the 10:30 Mass, in the St. Joseph Room located in the Parish Hall downstairs. Parents may pick up their Baptism Formation Packet at the Parish Office or at the Sunday Parish Office.
During formation, parents are encouraged to think and pray about their own faith in order to pass that faith to their child. They learn how to participate fully in the Rite of Baptism. Families are introduced to the concept of the Domestic Church. The phrase “domestic church” has been used to describe families since the beginning of Christianity. In his Letter to Families, Pope St. John Paul II explained, “The Fathers of the Church,... have spoken of the family as a ‘domestic church,’ a ‘little church. The domestic church believes that how you live your faith in your families, parishes and community has a ripple effect that changes the world.
The Baptism Formation Ministry is a privileged opportunity to welcome families to Queenship of Mary Church. If you are interested in sharing your family’s Baptism stories and how you live your own “domestic church” in your home, please contact the parish office or Barbara O'Connell
