"In this sense we naturally should do everything in the context of sacramental preparation to also reach the parents and - let's say- also awaken in them a sensibility for the path that their children are taking."
Pope Benedict XVI
It is important that children be properly prepared to receive the Sacraments of the Church. At Queenship of Mary we believe this preparation is first about fostering a relationship with Jesus and the Christian community, and that it involves the whole family and community, not just the child wishing to receive the Sacrament!
Our Diocese of Metuchen recommends a two year period of preparation prior to the reception of First Sacraments and Confirmation. We joyfully begin this journey of faith with families as they prepare their children to embrace the unconditional love of Christ in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.
Families typically begin this two year process toward the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist when a child is in level 1, these children participate in Living Faith and other parish events to begin their preparation for these wonderful sacraments of the Church!
Level 2 students, along with their parents, continue with Living Faith but also prepare to receive first Reconciliation by participating in a series of four learning experiences in the fall/winter culminating in the reception of the Sacrament in January. These students and parents then come together again to experience preparation for the Eucharist over a course of four gatherings in the winter/spring. First Eucharist will be experienced with the entire parish community in May.
