Our parish, through Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Global Solidarity Program, began a partnership with the Parish of Santa Cruz in the Diocese of Santa Rosa, Guatemala several years ago. This unit of CRS strives to promote the development of mutually enriching relationships between the people CRS serves in the U.S. and overseas that lead to the immediate and long-term transformation of people and the world in which they live. These relationships create a strong base of solidarity from which personal dispositions can be changed and tangible actions can take place for the common good. Individuals are transformed by a spiritual awakening that occurs in engaging directly with people from a distant place; groups can engage in concrete activities such as advocacy and support of projects that will improve living conditions for their partners.
Our Partnership strives to bring solidarity to the minds and hearts of all parishioners. The Partnership works on both the local and global level.
Locally, our parishioners support this partnership through their prayer, awareness and direct support in a variety of ways. We have also welcomed several friends from Guatemala to our parish community in order to grow in friendship and faith.
Globally, we travel to the parish of Santa Cruz in the City of Chiquimulilla, twice a year, to build our relationship and to share faith with one another. To date some 50 different parishioners have traveled with us on 19 mission trips, experiencing first hand the goodness and warmth of our friends!
