Supporting the Guatemala Scholarship Fund
Queenship of Mary directly supports the scholarship program as of 2016. This is a project of Living Faith to connect our families who are growing in faith with families in Guatemala in support of our overall Guatemala Partnership – as a way to connect our children more directly through participation. This year, through the generosity of our Living Faith participants, we are supporting scholarships for four children (2 elementary and 2 high school).
Thanks to the Living Faith Community, the scholarship fund is now a parish wide initiative!

Within the Diocese of Metuchen there are 4 other parishes and 3 parochial schools that support scholarships directly. In addition, others support scholarships indirectly through Fair Trade sales of Guatemala goods.
A number of our parishioners had the opportunity to meet Estela Cristales Lopez, the faciltator of this program, when she traveled from Guatemala to visit Queenship of Mary in November 2015. Through Estela our parishioners learned about the efforts of the Scholarship Program sponsored by the Diocese of Metuchen which assists youth in the Diocese of Santa Rosa, Guatemala. Estela has been working on this effort as Project Coordinator since 2012. Under her coordination, the Program continues to expand its coverage in the number of scholarships offered as well as its geographical reach.
The scholarship program provides tuition, school supplies, medicines, and other basic necessities to families who would otherwise be unable to send their children to school. The school system in Guatemala is very different from here in the US. The government does not guarantee an education through high school and without help, most students leave school after the 6th grade in order to work to assist their families.
